The topic of motherhood and sex is flooding our culture, from new TV shows such as Up All Night to the Sex in the City franchise to uncensored talk shows and mommy-is-all-sexed-up fashion trends, all pointing to a changing landscape of the American Mother.
 
Anna Fishbeyn's new play, Sex in Mommyville, explores women's sexuality after children with raucous humor and unflinching honesty, brilliantly weaving Greek mythology into one woman's struggle to find her voice within an invasive culture and a traditional familial structure.  Artemis is a feisty, intellectual, sexually-liberated stay-at-home mom who adores her children, dreams of publishing her novel, loves her over-eager Russian parents, and only wants to be understood by her blackberry-hijacked Wall-Street-lawyer husband, Zeus.  But as she juggles the act of writing with the job of mothering, she realizes that unless she's willing to go to battle, she will remain invisible. Against the backdrop of quarrelsome Muses, failed sex attempts, encounters with moms baring their lives on talk shows and a flock of MILFs, Sex in Mommyville is a fearless portrayal of modern motherhood and devastating commentary on the state of feminism today.
 
The show had a sold out run at Manhattan Reparatory Theatre in July 2011 and was extended for further performances in September, 2011!  Ted Merwin from The Jewish Week said, "The show...is a lusty, unbridled Russian Jewish updating of Henrik Ibsen's 'A Doll's House.'"  Jeremy Gerard from Bloomberg News called the show "Furious" and said he would "…take her [Fishbeyn's] spleen over the sitcom slickness of Zach Braff's All New People. "
